There might be free tickets sitting in your Ticketmaster account right now

After nearly a decade of legal wrangling, the class-action lawsuit against Ticketmaster—known as Schlesinger v. Ticketmaster if you’re introducing it to your parents—finally resolved in 2011. But it’s taken the ticketing service another five years to get the court-ordered settlement—issued due to the persistent overcharging for which the company is infamous—to consumers. That day is finally upon us, though, with “Sorry we screwed you!” vouchers and discount codes arriving in the Ticketmaster accounts of more than 50 million customers today.

Given that you probably skimmed right over the e-mail the company sent out back in May, and its alluring “Schlesinger v. Ticketmaster Class Action Settlement – Notice Regarding Discount and Ticket Codes” subject line, now might be a good time to dig up your Ticketmaster account credentials and see if there’s anything waiting for you on their site. Besides the discount codes—for $2.50 per purchase made between October 21, 1999 and February 27, 2013—you should also find a set of vouchers, each good for a pair of tickets to certain events—specifically, those held at the company’s Live Nation venues. Unfortunately, the company’s list of eligible events isn’t finalized yet—because no aspect of this process can be anything less than a slow-burning garbage fire, apparently—but you can still go to the “Active Vouchers” section of the Ticketmaster site and see if you’ve got any court-mandated goodies waiting for you.
