Orange Is The New Black’s Larry Bloom is a hotly contested character to put it lightly. No one really likes him and many wonder why the show devotes running time to his continued misadventures outside of prison. That perception may change, however, after reading Larry Smith’s (Bloom’s real life counterpart) talk about his relationship with Piper Kerman. The story, over on Matter, is a long one but entirely worth reading. Smith goes into detail about his relationship with Kerman (spoilers: they’re still happily married), how Orange Is The New Black impacted his life, and how that life is different from the show. It’s a fascinating and well written piece that makes a strong argument that maybe, and only just maybe, Larry Bloom isn’t the piece of human garbage that many fans make him out to be.
