The All-American Music Map tracks each region's genre tastes, fuels your elitism

The last time we saw a map showcasing each state’s favorite musicians, it exposed the unsurprising, yet sobering reality that most people just really like Jay Z and Drake. The new “All-American Music Map” is a little more compelling, tracking the country’s preferences for different styles of music by region. Compiled by real estate blog Movoto, the heat map uses data from the National Endowment of the Arts, the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, and Wikipedia to help you determine once and for all whether your region is a bastion of musical refinement and good taste, or a lame center of bad playlists and broken dreams.

There are more than a few surprises: The Pacific Northwest, for instance, is a hotspot for bluegrass and jazz, while the Nashville area and California coast are some of the few remaining epicenters for punk. And apparently anyone living in the Midwest kind of just listens to whatever. [via Brooklyn Vegan]
