There will be no third season of The Bridge on FX, according to an email from the network. The drama finished its second season on October 1 with an audience of 1.03 million and a 0.3 rating among adults under 50—a worse rating than one of the night’s King Of The Hill reruns but better than those for a 7 a.m. SpongeBob SquarePants broadcast. Viewership for the cross-border sleuthing of Sonya Cross and Marco Ruiz declined throughout the second season, proving that the greatest dangers facing Cross and Ruiz were not institutional corruption and ruthless drug cartels, but rather late-night cartoons and the cleaner crimes being solved in one hour or less on USA’s NCIS repeats.

Talk among the TV press on Twitter suggests that The Bridge’s production studio, Shine America, is actively searching for a new home for the series. And if you believe that, Shine has a bridge between El Paso and Ciudad Juárez it’d like to sell you—specifically The Bridge, the acclaimed American adaptation of the Danish-Swedish co-production of the same name.
