Mark Ruffalo promises a Hulk-ier Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok

Mark Ruffalo has previously described Thor: Ragnarok as a “universal road movie” and “buddy picture” between Thor and Bruce Banner/the Hulk, and according to a new Entertainment Tonight interview with the actor, you’re going to see a lot of Hulk action in the trilogy-capper. Apropos of the Hulk’s favorite pastime, Ruffalo said the presentation of his character in Thor: Ragnarok “will be smashing.” He added, “You’ll see a lot more Hulk. The Hulk gets Hulk-ier. The Hulk Hulks out. Hulk-ier and bigger.”

Besides Ruffalo’s overestimation of how well his character’s name can work as a descriptor, fans might also note the actor’s comment that the character will become “bigger.” Although Ang Lee showcased the various sizes of the Hulk in his 2003 adaptation, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe the character grows to a size where his hand is roughly four times the size of Black Widow’s and seems to top out there. If Ruffalo means that his Hulk will increase in size—or even if he doesn’t—the internet can commence concocting wild theories as to how that’s possible. (Our guess is that he either devours an Infinity Stone or finally finds a weight bench big enough to hold him on Asgard.)

In the interview, Ruffalo also talked up Cate Blanchett’s villain, Hela. He teased that Blanchett “plays the worst of the worst. So evil. She’s going to kill us. It’s such a great part she gets to play.” This sounds a lot better than whatever that Elf guy was doing in Thor: The Dark World. Thor: Ragnarok is being directed by Taika Waititi (What We Do In The Shadows). Besides Chris Hemsworth as Thor and co-stars Ruffalo, Blanchett, and Hiddleston, the film will somehow find room for Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, and Jeff Goldblum (but not Natalie Portman). It’s set for release in November 2017.
