Although knitting has seen a resurgence in popularity over the last decade, crochet is still the ugly stepsister of yarn crafts. There’s no good reason for this—crocheting is much easier to learn for those of us who have failed at knitting, and projects move pretty quickly, meaning you can whip up an heirloom blanket in a few weeks or months instead of having half-knitted projects lying in closets for years, a physical manifestation of your shame. (We speak from experience here.)

Proving that crochet is just as fun as knitting and a heckuva lot faster, speed crocheter Jayna Grassel shows us how it’s done by hooking a flower in just under 90 seconds. Condé Nast filmed a number of people who could “do things impressively and incredibly fast with their hands,” according to Grassel’s blog. She’s been crocheting since she was 8 years old, so she’s had a little time to practice, but the final video is pretty dang impressive:
