Le Tigre is reuniting—for one song only

Since Bikini Kill’s breakup in 1997, Kathleen Hanna’s kept the riot grrrl movement going with the Julie Ruin, which went from solo project to full band back in 2010. With the lineup solidified, the band returned to Hit Reset with their second album earlier this year. But in between those two acts, Hanna formed Le Tigre with Johanna Fateman. The dance-punk outfit, which also featured Sadie Benning then JD Samson, briefly mended all those broken punk-feminist hearts in the wake of Bikini Kill’s dissolution. Le Tigre went on a break in 2007, years after the release of This Island, but didn’t officially break up, leaving fans to dream of its eventual return.

Now there’s even more reason to hope: Hannah has just announced Le Tigre is heading back to the studio to record a new song. She shared this tidbit while talking to Perfect Pussy’s Meredith Graves on the Talkhouse Music Podcast. Hannah wouldn’t say “what it’s about, but it’s been really fun working with them again.” She then went on to clarify that the band isn’t planning to record a full album or go out on tour again, which means whatever this new track is, we’ll have to listen to it on repeat. The band plans to release the new song, whose title is not yet known, sometime in the first half of October. In the meantime, we’ll just have to keep on livin’.
