Michael Shannon and Chris Hemsworth have signed on to be Jerry Bruckheimer’s Horse Soldiers. Deadline reports that the pair will star together in the mega-producer’s upcoming film of that name, about the early days of the post-9/11 war in Afghanistan, when horse-riding U.S. operatives worked with native warlords to oust the Taliban from its control of the country. The film is based on a book about the soldiers’ exploits, written by Doug Stanton.
Horse Soldiers is being produced by Bruckheimer and Black Label Media, and directed by acclaimed Danish photojournalist Nicolai Fuglsig, a relative newcomer to the world of making films. It presumably won’t be going into production for a while, though, since Hemsworth is currently fulfilling his franchise duties on the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok, and Shannon is starring in The Shape Of Water with Guillermo Del Toro, before taking a just-announced role on The Weinstein Company’s historical drama The Current War.
